As Jose once told him.
"Good luck. But you will never win the league."

Oh god the Beeb will be wanking themselves even more silly over this than they did when ferguson retired
Fair play though, regardless of that goal, always had a lot of time for gerrard. Fantastic player, woefully misused for England

Presume Lampard will announce his retirement next week so that he and Gerrard can be side by side in retirement. As they were in every stupidly selected England line up.

At fizzing long and short passes at pace he was excellent - at everything else pretty average. Largely anonymous at international level. Doesn't add up to a great player to me.

Stevie G wishes he was able to perform at a world class level as often as Alex V on here.

I mean fuck off V, the bloke was class.
Class to the extent that I doubt I've seen a better centre midfielder wearing the claret and blue in the 28 years I've been going to West Ham.

Gerrard was an excellent player.
Shame he never really did it at international level. Would have been better if he'd been alongside Carrick rather than Lampard.

I am guessing he will slide into a cosy coaching role in the Liverpool academy working with youngsters. Doesn't strike me as a manager but would be inspiring to youngsters. Should look at some like Zola as an example of someone who shouldn't be put in charge of adults.

Cracking player for his club. Never fully replicated it for his country. Partly not his fault due to insane managers picking insane teams and using stupid tactics.
On the subject of him being on television, it's strange that the modern day qualifications seem to be 'were you are really good player?' rather than are you actually eloquent, with credible and interesting opinions, with a personality and not a boring bastard. I don;t care how good he was, i want someone that will talk well about the game, make sense and not be dull.
No doubt he'll be all over SKY or the BBC soon, regardless of whether he actually is worthy of it.

I still have never seen it again. I always turn the telly over if by myself or leave the room if I can't turn it over because other people are watching, if I think it's going to be shown at any point.
This includes opening credits of any FA cup based programme or anything Gerrard is on. Luckily I have no interest in watching him on anything so there's not much worry there.
I still feel physically sick when i think about it.

never particularly liked the ginger cunt as a person but has been a great club player but for me will always be remembered by opposing fans for that trip/stumble/fuck up

Brilliant for Liverpool average to good for England, when it comes to ' That Goal' I like 99% might hate Gerrard for it but our players were to blame he should never have had the ball anywhere near him.
I wish him well , although please God he never becomes a pundit he does not have the voice or accent for TV.

Top drawer footballer, decent (but dull) fella
“After I finally laid off spraying people with champagne and was leaving the Millennium pitch, Alan Pardew stopped me and shook my hand. ‘I’d hoped you were saving that for the World Cup,’ he said with a smile. Top man.
Pardew’s players were also first-class. They came across, man after man, concealing their agony to say, ‘Well done.’ Everyone associated with West Ham behaved with real dignity in Cardiff, just like the way I try to be in defeat.
If they had won, Liverpool could not have complained. Too many of our players were too disappointing. West Ham were desperately unfortunate to lose. Having played so well, it must have been gut-wrenching to go home without the FA Cup, yet they were all gracious.
It really moved me that in their hour of utter desolation, West Ham fans stayed behind to applaud as I lifted the FA Cup. I’ll never forget that sporting gesture. I’m Liverpool through and through, head to toe, but I have a place in my heart for West Ham supporters after Cardiff.
Fans like West Ham United’s make football special. Usually when we do a lap of honour with a cup, the opponents’ section is empty. The fans have disappeared, dragging their heartache with them. Not in Cardiff on 13 May 2006.
The West Ham fans were tremendous, clapping us as we paraded the cup. Both sets of fans were brilliant, which made it such a terrific occasion.”
